Answer:

I got tired of paying the dealer to replace the window regulators on my '90 C (I've been through 2 on the driver's side and one the passenger). My problem was the plastic tab at the top of the channel would fail. This caused the window not to completely close and eventually not go up at all. So I went on a hunt for an aftermarket replacement. I found a company called Pimax (http://www.pimax.it) who make replacements parts and decided to try the system out.

I payed $170 US for the part, which is cheaper than the dealers part by about $80. It is a one piece system that doesn't require rivets, has a bosch motor, and is screw drive. This means no more broken plastic tabs to break and cause your window not to close.

Installation was challenging and required a lot of patience. First the old assembly must be removed, so drilling out of the rivets (4 total) is needed. The new system bolts into 3 place, but the challenge is getting the assembly in the door. It took about 45 minutes of fiddling with it to get it into place. NOTE: If you have a tinted window, you'll need to have it re done after this. There is also some very minor wiring as the system comes with its own connector. After everything was installed it took another 30 minutes of adjustments to get the window to close all the way.

The new sytem isn't as fast or smooth on closing and opening the window as the OEM part, but this may require further adjustment. Hopefully it'll last a lot longer though. I'll let you know.
