I have read many tech-tips on how to convert the rear European fog lights to additional brake lights and all seem to be more involved than need be, this weekend in less than 10 minutes I was able to do the conversion of the fog lights (not used in US) to brake lights. These brake lights will only work when the brakes are activated and not with the driving lights, I consider this a bonus as it really surprises drivers behind you that only see two driving lights on the end of your C at night only to be warned that the C in front of them has now applied the brakes when they see all five lights glowing red. Materials needed: Seven foot of wire (14AWG) 3 female spade connectors 1 female wire-tap (choose one that will simply clamp on an existing wire and provide a female end for connection) 2 Bulbs (same as rear back-up lights) First take off the tail hatch cover by rotating the 6 plastic screws 1/4 of a turn left. Locate the Black with Red stripe wire that leads to the center brake light, and install the female wire-tap to it. Now measure out the distance to the Drivers side rear light assembly and cut a section of wire. Now on one end connect one of the female spade connectors and attach to the tap on the black w/ red stripe wire. With one of the other female spade connectors you will be connecting two wires, one to the wire you just attached and the other end to the wire running to the passenger side light assembly. (this will look like a "V" with connectors on all 3 points) Finally attach the last female spade connector to the end of the wire used to make the jump to the passenger side light assembly. Install your bulbs into both lower connections in the light assemblies. Now the two ends will need to be connected to the Male connectors provided on both light assemblies. Trace the line that goes to the center contact for the newly installed bulb and connect the female spade connectors to those leads. Thats it! Enjoy the fact that you will now light up the night sky with red when braking. On my 1990 G60 with the light assemblies installed and myself standing outside of car, the wire was connected to the lower most bottom connector on the drivers side and to the lower most top connector on the passenger side.
