Bug Out 98

Andrew Gajewski

The Toronto Bug Out was quite good. We had about 15 CCA members and maybe another 10 corrado owners that were non-CCA. There were some good bargains there too.

On sat, I did the solo. I was 0.1 sec from getting FTD (fastest Time of Day), and fell to 2nd behind a rabbit. I blame my shocks for this. They wore out my tires prematurely and I was racing on metal, which is a tad more slippery than race rubber. Maybe next year. (I know Nick and a few others are just going to say: "yeah, yeah, you just suck, you'll never be number one and only second or worse", but HEY, I HAD FUN :) It was a tight course but still fun. There were 2 other corrados there as well. A VR6 C rook third in his class, I won my class, and the third guy (also Andy) quit early.

Later that day most of us went donwtown for dinner in one big convoy. The drive was fairly controlled (for the first time in the Ontario region). However, once we got into the underground parking lot, some thought they were in a automobile concert hall (can you guess who started it? Robin the Psycho Kid.). The garage concrete halls echod first about 30 seconds of random horn music and then about 30 seconds of 6000 rpm engine groul coming from suitcaseless exhaust systems. After the ringing in our ears stopped, we left the concert hall to fill our tummies.

On sun morning, most met up at the hotel. The limo came by to pick up the girls for a day of shopping, sight seeing and champain drinking. The boys stayed with their toys, cleaned the cars and drank some brewskis. It was very relaxing and fun just hanging around and chatting with everyone. We sold several memberships (I think 3 or 5) and a few T-shirts as well. Don't know who won won the show car part of things as I'm not too interested in it. I can tell you that it was not me! :)

The corrados represented the largest Watercooled make, which was quite nice to see.

The drive home was quite entertaining as it ranged from hydroplaning @ 70km/h to about 5000rpm in a certain gear. We also had an interesting light show when it got dark as most of us bought colored daytime driving bulbs (yellow, green, blue) and we were palying with that for a little while.

So, I think that this will also be a good show to come out to next year for people that did not make it out this year. Its quite liad back, not too badly organized and if we have a few more corrados out next year, we could request that they change the name from the Bug Out, to Corrado Out.
