The Ottawa Fall Drive was an experience I will never forget. It was very fun and the BBQ at Mikes house afterward was amazing! Thanks Mike Cote! Thanks to everyone who showed up (we had 8 cars).
I guess there were 3 major highlights:
1. One of the first twisty corners....the leader was Steve C in his fender-bendered VR6, he knew the roads. The followers were not quite as familair with the roads. Lets just say the smiles were there, the sweat was wiped off and several praises for the tire manufacturer were given.
2. This was on a stright... this one cleared all of our blood clots, even if we didn't have any! The leader, some local that was about to turn left. Second in line was Steve, the corrado convoy leader, followed by me. We had no problem stopping for the left turner but the fellas behind had some troubles. I hear screatching and wide eyes in my mirror. Mike Cote in his VR6 (with brand new Toto 225's!), was approaching my bumper. Being a nice friend and all, he probably decided to sacrifice his C instead of making a white/green corrado limo, he dove to the shoulder with his tail going out sideways. At this point I see another corrado, purple this time around. Well, I think, one guy wnet right, he's going stright, I'll move over to the left (not even knowing if there is oncoming traffic approaching). Fumbling with my gears to try and move, I notice Mike (the green C) right next to me. We look at each other with amazement on how close things were and what to do next to get ourselves back in order. Shortly after we stop and try to air out our pants in the breeze as so much sweat (and maybe some other things... but no one admitted) has collected in our pants. From this point on, for some reason, the corrados have spaced out by about 300%...figure that!
3. Zooming along, on the way back, there is a car flashing headlights at our convoy...instantly I think its a cop trap. We all slow down then see a sort of road block. An accident I think. As we get closer and the first corrado approaches the scene, I see the cop walk in front of the first corrado. We're canned I think, I swallow my adams apple and try not to stall the car due to my feet shacking. It turns out the cop just sptopped the car to let someone through... phew... After I pass by successfully, I think to myslef, why was I scared, we were't doing anything wrong...just enjoying a sunday drive with my friends, really! I got a dozen witnesses :)
One thing that was different from previous ottawa events is that it appeared like psychokid (Robin) was very tame this time around. No real burn outs, no real musical orchestras (with his new and improved louder muffler...uhh, I mean no muffler). He must of had a hang over. I'm sure he'll make it up on the first event of next year.
