Does anyone have any experience on fixing the headliner coming unglued from the sunroof. The dealer fix is to have you buy the sunroof piece the new piece of fabric is glued to for $210!! And that does not include labor! Is there a special spray glue that is best for this?
Yes, the same thing happened on mine. I finally got tired of getting the liner in my hair and bits of foam in my eyes trying to stuff it in the cracks.
First, remove the center panel (with headliner) and surrounding frame.
You don't need to remove the sunroof to do this!
(For my '90 G60....)
Grab the outline part of the headliner (the part that doesn't tilt) and force it toward the rear of the car. It will slide back. What I did then was slide it back far enough to get to the screws holding the center part to the frame, and removed them. You can then remove the frame by turning it 90 degrees in the empty part of the roof (in the back) and pulling it out towards the windshield. Installation is the reverse of removal (ahem). NOTE that this is not what the manual says to do... I just couln't find the torx screw they were talking about, but it still came out. Maybe it's the updated sunroof...
I next took off the headliner material from both parts, 1/2 at a time. You may just want to buy new material from a cloth store (I didn't) Scrape off the old foam from both liner and sunroof thing. Also scrape off old glue (green) from the plastic sunroof thing. I then used 3M spray glue I got at HI/LO for headliners and glued it back, 1/2 a piece at a time for easy placement and centering. Works pretty good! You can`t even tell the foam is missing by looking at it. Doesn't feel as soft when you press down, but who cares?
Oh yeah, glueing the border thing is a bitch. The liner stuff stretches.
Good luck!
