Radiator fan replacement
I recently found my radiator fan had a blown bearing and making all kind
of noise. Of course the stock fan probally cost over $200, not an
option. After removing the fan and shroud (easier with upper IC tube
removed ). You can fit a 12 inch fan, any larger will overhang. I bought
a Hayden electric fan from R&S Strauss only $70. The fan is very low
profile 2 5/8 deep. You can leave the shroud off and mount it directly
to the radiator with the included hardware, May be more difficult to
reach the front of the radiator to attach it. I removed the shroud
drilled four holes where the mounts are on the electric fan with a #21
drill. Put the hardware in from the front side of the shroud
and install it on the radiator. Put the fan in per instructions, it
fits the opening perfictly. For the wiring you can use male spade
connectors with the factory harness or cut it off and use butt splices
(cleaner method). Connect the factory brown wire (negative) with the
black wire on the fan. Splice togather the two red striped wires
(posative) with the blue wire of the fan. The wires may be different on
other brands of fans. Ti-wrap the wires to the shroud and install the IC
tube. Warm up the car run the a/c, defrost and let the fan switch turn
on the fan to test it. Remember to read the manufacturers directions
before starting. I have had it on my car for a week including a couple
days of sitting in traffic in 90 deg. weather and it works great. Plus
you get a big weight and space savings.
