Fixing the Rear Hatch license plate Panel

I am assuming that you are talking about the rear plastic panel that your license plate screws into. If so, don't buy a new one because fixing the one you have will make it 1,000 times stronger.

First you will have to pull off the interior hatch panel that will expose the spoiler motor, etc as you will need to get at back there. Once this panel is removed, remove the outer plastic panel as well. There should be some double stick tape (or possibly sealant) holding the bottom of the panel to the hatch. Once this panel is off you will see two holes in the hatch that the old mounting screws attached through. You will also notice that these holes correspond with the broken studs on the panel.

Now a trip to the hardware store. Buy two long sheet metal screws(greater than 4 inches), one dry wall anchor (what you use to mount something in a drywall ceiling, spring loaded and folds in half) and a nut and washer. If you look at the inside of the hatch panel you will see where both the anchor and nut will secure to the spoiler assembly mounting bracket. The passenger side hole uses the nut as it is a very tight space and I had to hold the nut with needle nose pliers to get it started. The drivers side has plenty of room but the hole in the spoiler mounting bracket is rather large, hence the drywall anchor. Depending on how long the sheet metal screws are that you buy you may need to cut them to length (each side will require a different length).

With the license plate removed, drill out where the plastic posts once were on the plastic panel using a bit roughly the same size as your screws. Start on the inside and drill out. Your new holes will match the holes in your hatch. Now insert the screws into the panel and mount it on the hatch. Start the anchor and nut onto the screws and screw them in. I had to hold the nut with needle nose pliers until tight.

Once you snug up the plastic panel it is on there for good and will not break again.

Cheap, sort of easy, and strong.
