Changing the G60 Belt

On top of the charger there is a little black cover held on by an allen bolt (7mm?). It's on the passenger side. If you remove this you can see the small cog wheel and belt. Here, you can get an idea of what kind a shape it is in. But beware, because its appearance can be decieving! The best thing to do is change it if you don't know when the last time it had been changed. I changed mine when i went to a 68mm pulley to ensure i wouldn't destroy the charger (the car has 150k on it!)

To replace the belt:
1 - you remove the lower drive belt. (loosen the power steering pump to release tension on the belt)
2 - then you remove the tension(that is the thing that looks like a shock absorber behind the alternator)
3 - once that is removed the serpentine belt will be totally loose. If you are not replaceing the serpentine belt, you don't need to remove the lower drive belt.
4 - Ok now you need to remove the pulley. This is not an easy job. The best way i found to do it is leave the tensioner on so the belt will hold the pulley in place, then use an impact driver to remove the nut. Using a conventional ratchet will take all day. I have heard that people held the pulley with vice grips or something and then used a ratchet but I couldn't get that setup to work.
5 - Now with the pulley removed (you may have to pry useing two screwdrivers, make sure to apply even pressure) you can see inside to the bottom of the belt. simply turn the belt on the two cog wheels until the marks are lined up on the casing and the two cog wheels.
6 - Simply slide of the old and on with the new.
7 - Make sure your marks are lined up and reverse the process.

Have fun and expect to take a couple of hours depending on how difficult it is to get off the pulley. If you have any more questions just ask.
