A. The tuners that tell unknowing G60 owners things like this are in the business to make a buck, remember? Yes, any tuner that makes more $$ off selling you an Amsoil of Jamex filter will tell you this, it's simple business. I would do the same if I were in the tuning business, to be honest. Also, we have to replace the foam filters when they disintegrate, so after a time a tuner gets to make that $$ all over again when we have to buy a new filter.
If you happen to read Automobile or European Car, they both did recent articles comparing filtering abilities, lifespans, and flow characteristics of various filters. You might do well to take the time to read them, since EC and Automobile do not make $$ directly off which filter we decide to buy.
I know specifically Francis at Motortechnik tells G60 owners to ditch the K+N and get his filter. It's easy to fool an unseasoned G60 owner into it, since all he has to do is show you the dirt in the supercharger and say it's because of the filter. Hello, have you ever noticed all the crap that floats in our oil when we change it (on any car, not just ours)? Our engine oil feeds our supercharger, so any crap in our engine goes into our G-lader too. It really has nothing to do with the filtering capabilities of a K+N... if he were to show you a G-lader with the same mileage that had run an Amsoil filter, it would look identical. I've seen G-laders that ran stock airfilters look much worse inside than ones that ran cheesy japanese foam filters.
Just so you know, I have 187,900 miles on my original unrebuilt G-lader which I have been racing @ 17.4 psi boost for over 90,000 miles. It's had a K+N on it for over 100,000 miles. If there is truly a problem with the filtering ability of a K+N on a supercharged car, I think I would be the first to know about it. Before you accept the word of someone who is going to take your $$ OR my experience as being gospel, you might want to research the data yourself.
