VR6 Fuel Line Leakage

From: "Dobbs, Mike" (mdobbs@amgen.com)

I've noticed that immediately after start-up, a small amount of fuel leaks from the high pressure hose right where it connects to the fuel rail (passenger side front of engine) on my '92 VR6 Corrado. My car has had this line repleced under the recall by the previous owner (according to VW records). I first noticed this leak shortly after purchasing the car some 9 months ago. I immediately replaced the spring-loaded clamps with standard hose clamps. Just last week I again noticed this leak...this time I replaced the hose clamps with fuel injector line hose clamps. These ones don't have the little slits along the metal band and they use a different tensioning method. So far they have fixed the leak.

I highly recommend all VR6 owners take a close look at that fitting while someone starts the car...the leak seems to occur ONLY after the line has depressurized...so the first start-up of the day would be the best time to check. This may be why some folk have had trouble convincing the dealer of the leak...the see the leak, drive to the dealer then start-up again...but no leak occurs since the system is pressurized already.

If you detect fuel escaping, either try my solution or get over to the dealer and have them fix it...pronto!  Obviously the recall didn't solve the problem permanently for my car.
