G60 Fire ?!?!
Tim was so nice to forward me/us a bunch of notes called Tech Talk
(I am not sure of its origin).
One of the items mentions of a potential engine fire in 90 G60s.
To eliminate the problem you need to move the ground strap
between the firewall and the #4 cylinder head cam cover stud
to the top of the TBody.
I have not checked mine as yet, but I do remember when I was
installing my cam that I found this wire a bit tight and
rerouted it a bit.
Now where did I leave that @#$%^& file of all the things that
go shafe at night on Corrados to add this to the list.
Actually...I still have lots of interesting info on a non-volatile
storage medium (paper) that I'd like to convert to electronic form
(text, not bitmaps).
If any of you with a scanner and/or an OCR could be so kind to lend me
a hand, I'd appreciate it.
If we could do that, you could figure out the hard starting problem
when hot on ABA and AAA engines.

Check the following:
- The power steering hose on G60s. It kind-a hangs down below
the oil filter before it goes up to the PS reservoir.
At some point it crosses the car's front subframe, and I found
wear at that spot. I covered it with some split tubing and
secured the hose with some tie wraps. You'll figure out what
seems right. I don't think the VR6 has this problem.
- Upper radiator hose rubbing up agains the fan for G60s. Talk about BAD
design! The upper radiator hose is routed RIGHT ABOVE the radiator
fan. On top of this hose is that piece of plastic, pressing down.
This all works ok if the little line on the hose lines up with
line on the upper radiator neck. Mine did not ==> wear ==> 90$
So check it out. In an extreme case, I would not be surprised
if it stopped the fan from running.
VR6 *may* have this problem too.
- [From someone else on the net] The A/C cord clipped on to the
stationary fan housing strut may interfere with the fan.
This seems to be a problem mostly in G60s.
What I did (Jan) is to reroute the wires a bit and use split
tubing to protect them.
- A/C hose: On the SLC, at the front-passenger side right above the headlamp,
that bent was rubbing up against some sheet metal.
Reinforced it as above.
- Oxygen sensor wire clip on subframe: This clip is sharp and tore through
most of the cladding on my G60. VR6s may have this problem too.
- From ND's Tech Talk:
There is a potential for engine fire in 90 G60s.
To eliminate the problem you need to move the ground strap
between the firewall and the #4 cylinder head cam cover stud
to the top of the TBody. (#4 is near the tranny).
- I also do not like how they routed all these wires and tubes
right above the engine. Too much heat. In a while all the insulation
will be hard and snap the wire like dry spaghetti. Anyone who has
worked on an old car will know what I mean. Not sure you can do much
about it short of adding some heat insolating wrap.
- Keep an eye on battery leaks...it creates all kinds of havoc
on the supercharger tubes, intercooler, electrical connections, etc.
