The European parts fiche shows a Temp Sender and a Thermo Switch for the PG engine, both mounted in the same position.
| 251 919 501D | Temperature Sender for Coolant Temperature Gauge, 2 pin, green/black |
| 191 919 369A | Thermo Switch for Vehicles with Air Conditioning, 119C, 2 pin, grey/white |
But they are listed as one or the other whereas in reality I would think you need both as all US cars had AC.
The US parts fiche shows _only_ the 191 919 369A Thermo Switch. I can't find any part number in the US fiche for the Coolant Temp Gauge sender. Obviously it is in error.
These switches/senders are shown as fitting in the rearmost opening on the coolant hose flange mounted to the head. The front opening on the hose flange houses a Temperature Sensor (blue in color), 025 906 041A, for cars with catalytic converters which again all US cars have.
I think what you guys need is the 251 919 501D Temp Sensor, though it isn't listed on the US parts fiche.
The 191 919 369A Thermo Switch you received must mount elsewhere but is shown incorrectly in the parts fiche. It is going to provide 12V when the coolant reaches a temp of 119C, assuming it is a N.O. switch, which I would think would just peg the coolant gauge.
Don't know if this clears things up somewhat or just made them worse.I've been going trough this saga for about a year and a half. Asked for the black sensor, and they told me it was silver. Said no. Brought the part number of the old sensor in, and they couldn't find it in the catalog, and the cross reference said it's not available. So I got the silver sensor...that's not the one. So I have a silver sensor somewhere in my garage floor.
If anybody can shed light into this one, I would also like to know.Asked the dealer for the black coolant temp sensor for the dash gauge. He said he's have to order it, be in today. Picked it up, and its not black, its silver. I asked him "Are you sure this is the right one?" "Yeah, I'm sure," he says.
Get home, install it, start car, temp light starts blinking, get no reading from dash guage. Must not be right one. Its part #191-919-369-A. What the hell is it for?
Thanks,
